90. Joseph Morse (bp. 1613–1654), son of Samuel Morse and Elizabeth Jasper
Joseph Morse was baptized on 2 May 1613 in Redgrave Suffolk and he died on 20 June 1654, probably in Dorchester. [1] He married Hannah Phillips on 1 September 1638 in Dedham. [1]
91. Hannah (Ann/Anne) Phillips (say 1615–d. 1676)
Hannah Phillips was born say 1615. She died on 3 October 1676 at the home of her eldest daughter in Boston. [1] She married second as his second wife Thomas Boydon on 3 November 1656 in Boston. [1] Thomas was born about 1613 in England and died after 1682 in Medfield. [1] He married first Frances Unknown. [1] She did on 17 March 1657/8 in Boston. [1]
Hannah's origins are unknown; she was not related to Reverend George Phillips of Watertown. [1]
Joseph's father's half brother James Morse of Barham, Suffolk left "his cousin" Joseph Morse 40 shillings in his will of 2 September 1638. [1]
Joseph Morse arrived in Boston with his parents on the Increase in July 1635, at age 22. [1] Joseph was a carpenter. [1]
Joseph, his father and his brother David signed the covenant to establish the town of Dedham in 1636. [1] Joseph was one of the proprietors of Dedham who were included in the new town of Medford. [1]
Ann, the wife of Joseph Morse, became a member of the church in Dedham on 10 November 1639. [1]
Inventory on Joseph's estate, taken on 24 (4) 1654 amounted to £420 3s. 6d. [1]
Children of Joseph Morse and Hannah Phillips:
i. Samuel Morse was born on 10 January 1639/40 in Dedham. [1] He was baptized on 27 January 1639/40. [1] He died on 28 February 1717/8 in Medfield. [1] He married first Elizabeth Wood on 10 February 1664. [1] Elizabeth was the daughter of Nicholas Wood of Sherborn. She died on 26 June 1682 in Medfield. [1] He married second Sarah Thurston on 29 April 1684 in Medfield. [1]
On 19 (12) 1672 children and heirs of Nicholas Wood of Boggistow [Sherborn] signed a paper: Samuel Morse, husband of Elizabeth, John Thurston, guardian of Eleazer Wood, Joseph Morse, Thomas Bass guardian for Bethia Wood, Stephen Williams, guardian for Abigail Wood. The widow being the mother-in-law of Bethiah Wood—Mehitable was wife of Joseph her portion was in Milton ... . [2]
ii. Hannah Morse was born on 8 August 1641 in Dedham. [1] She was baptized "abt" 12 August 1641. [1] She died after 1681. [1] She married James Flood in 1667. [1] James, the son of Richard and Lydia Flood, died between 1695 and 29 august 1700 in Boston. [1]
iii. Sarah Morse was born on 16 September 1643 in Dedham. [1] She was baptized on 24 September 1643. [1] She died on 28 August 1683 in Sudbury. [1] She married Nathaniel Lawrence on 13 March 1660 in Watertown. [1]
iv. Dorcas Morse was born on 24 August 1645 in Dedham. [1] She was baptized on 3[!] August 1645. [1] She died on 14 July 1725 in Medfield. [1] She married Benjamin Clark on 19 November 1665 in Medfield. [1] Benjamin, the son of Joseph and Ann (Fenn) Clark, was born on 9 February 1643/4 in Dedham and died on 1 December 1724 in Medfield. [1]
v. Elizabeth Morse was born on 1 September 1647 in Dedham. She married Peleg Lawrence.
vi. Joseph Morse was born on 26 September 1649 in Dedham. [1] He died on 18 February 1717/8 in Sherborn. [1] He married first Mehitable Wood on 17 October 1671 in Medfield. Mehitable, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary (Pidge) Wood, was born 22 July 1655 in Medfield and died on 12 November 1681 in Sherborn. [1] He married second Hannah Badcock on 11 April 1683 in Medfield. [1] Hannah, the daughter of Robert and Joanna Badcock, was born on 8 February 1664 in Milton and died on 9 November 1711 in Sherborn. [1] He married third as her second husband Hannah (Baxter) Dyer on 17 May 1713. Hannah the daughter of John and Hannah (White) Baxter, was probably born about 1661 in Braintree and died on 4 September 1727 in Holliston. [1] She married first as his second wife Joseph Dyer. [1] Joseph married first Hannah Frary. [1]
vii. Jeremiah Morse was born on 10 June 1651 in Dedham. [1] He was baptized on 10 August 1651. [1] He married Elizabeth, the daughter of Francis and Sarah Hamant. She was born in 1659 and died on 25 April 1733 in Medfield. [1]
viii. Mary Morse was born about 1652 and baptized on 25 December 1717 in Medford. [1]. She married Joseph Plympton. [1] He died on 20 June 1702. [1]
